We did hats for our cousins, simple 2x2 ribs using KnitPick's Andean Silk. What yummy yarn!!
The one on the left is the one my sister made, and I made the one on the right.
This is a hat I started for one of the cousins, but my sister deemed it "too girly" and appropriated it for herself. :-) It's also in Andean Silk. I've GOT to do something for myself out of that yarn!

I kind of made it up as I went along, and I think it turned out really well.
Here's a neck scarf I made using directions from a very nice woman, Sherry, on one of the knitting email lists I belong to. The color is a little off, but I couldn't get it right. It's a terribly hard color to photograph! It's more purply than in the picture, but you can get the idea. This is for my grandmother in southeastern Idaho.
These are some more 2x2 hats for my best girlfriends' husbands. The one on the left is really long so that he can fold more of it back. They're both made from WoolEase Chunky.

I really like the hat you made for your sister. How did you work the decreases to get the "swirley" effect on the top?
I didn't keep good track of what I did on the top, but I actually STARTED at the top center and increased. I cast on 8 sts, distrubuted them on 4 dps, and did a M1 increase between the first and second sts on each needle. I did that for a while, which gave me the four "lines" of swirls. Then I decided I wanted to have 8 "lines" of increases to make a more round shape, so I began doing a decrease, then a M1 in the middle of the needle.
That doesn't make a lot of sense, so I'll have to write it up in pattern form. Give me a little while....
