More pictures

This post could also be titled "Machine Monday, Three Days Late."

First, last night we had a kind of blah sunset, but the light from the sunset shining through the ice on the trees was pretty darn spectacular!

YOU MUST click on the pictures to see the light. It doesn't show up in the small pictures, 'k?

I was just entranced! Then I went back inside because it was cold!

Next up, Karen's Birthday Quilt Which Is Late. Yep, that's it's official name right now.

I'm struggling with a design for the blocks. My Mom suggested a free form feather, but I'm still waffling. It'll come to me in the next day or so, hopefully.

And now I've got a splitting headache so I'm going to bed. At least the kids (finally!!) go back to school tomorrow.

Ice Pictures

Today is stunningly beautiful, but it's still nasty outside.

(As always, click the pictures to embiggen!)

That's ice, not snow. Little tiny pellets of ice.
It rained ice all day yesterday, starting at about midnight, and didn't stop until sometime last night. Now it's sunny out and it's all melting, so we might actually be able to resume our lives tomorrow!

Luckily the kids are being really good.

Yesterday afternoon they put a cup of water outside to see what would happen, and this is what they brought in this morning:

I'm fascinated by the air bubbles!

-------------------------------------------

In knitting news, I've been working a little bit on my Hyrna Herborgar shawl. This is where I stopped yesterday, and I'm really glad to be finished with the double yarnovers for a while.

I'm using some of my early hand spun and I'm learning a lot about how I want to spin differently for the next lace-weight project.

-------------------------------------------

I've been doing some quilting, trying to get my sister's quilt finished. I'll work on taking some pictures in a little bit.

I hope you are all having a great week so far!

Knitting and Spinning

I had such good intentions about posting and once again, I'm way behind.

Today I finally took some pictures of various things, so here they are. (As always, click to embiggen!)

Here's my progress on my Morning Surf scarf, which is part of the spin-along/knit-along with the Ply By Night group on Ravelry.

I've tightened up enough on my knitting that I'm using US7s with fingering-weight yarn! Yow!

I got a lot of this project done while at our Knit 1 Drink 2 night, which was an absolute blast.

------------------------------------------------

Last Saturday was Roc Day with the Tulsa Handspinners, and I managed to finish my project. It got the second-highest number of votes which made me happy.

Notice the rock on the left-hand edge. :-) Each bag of fiber included a rock, and that's how I used the rock in my project. It's quite heavy so I'll be taking it off soon.

I made the body of the scarf using single-ply yarn.

The blue/black and coral/black flowers are also from single ply. I'm quite pleased with how well the yarn turned out!

Hopefully I'll get my act together and get back into the groove of posting more often!

------------------------------------------------

In addition to today being an historic day with Obama's inauguration, it's also my sister's 33rd birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KAREN!!

Long Time no Blogging

I've been neglecting my blog just horribly lately, but I feel like I've either been frantically busy or ill.

I'm just going to do a quick update because I still need to bake a pumpkin pie for the knitting guild holiday party tomorrow. Thank goodness we have these things in January instead of in the midst of the insanity of December!

I've gotten a bit of knitting and spinning done, but I'm just going to show you spinning pictures today. (I have LOTS more things to talk about and show, but not tonight.)

Here are too many some pictures of my most recent yarn, spun from superwash Merino roving from Crown Mountain Farms. What lovely stuff! The colors aren't my first choice, but this is for a spin- and knit-along with the Ravelry group Ply By Night. We'll all spin the same roving and make the same project to show the differences that can be made using different techniques but using the same materials. It's been neat so far!

I got 262 yards from 2 ounces, which puts it in the fingering range. I'll be using it to make the Morning Surf Scarf (pictures coming soon).

Now I'm off to bake some pumpkin pies.

As always, click the pictures to embiggen.

Have a great weekend!
